Dr. Berthold Kuhn is a political scientist and international cooperation adviser on policies and governance for sustainable development. He works as an adjunct professor (Privatdozent) at the Otto Suhr Institute of Political Science (OSI), Freie Universität Berlin and as a senior consultant to the European Commission, United Nations organisations, German development cooperation, think tanks, consulting firms and nonprofit organisations. He has been invited to speak at international conferences and workshops in many parts of the world. His publications on megatrends and future research, sustainable development, climate policies and civil society in international comparative perspective are widely referenced.

Dr. Berthold Kuhn was a professor at the School of Public Policy and Management, Tsinghua University (2 years) and School of Public Affairs and School of Public Policy, Xiamen University (2 years) and a GIZ-CIM and Rhineland-Palatinate cooperation expert in China. He has made substantial contributions to the promotion of international cooperation and strategic partnerships between leading German and Chinese Universities. His publications and reports deal with international cooperation in theory and practice, with sustainable development and climate policies in comparative perspective, with sustainable finance, and with global megatrends.
His teaching experience covers Master and Bachelor level courses and executive training courses for diplomats, government officials and project managers in English and German on a wide range of political science/political sociology topics, with a focus on Sustainability Discourses, Policies and Implementation Strategies. He won the Central Teaching Award of Freie Universität Berlin in 2019 for a course on Climate Policies of Global Cities in Comparative Perspective.
Berthold has worked and travelled in more than 70 countries, mainly in Europe, Asia and Africa, and is fluent in German, English and French and able to communicate in Chinese. He lived for several years in China and India.
Berthold is married with Miao and father of three children (Kai, Meilin, Selina).
