Dr. Berthold Kuhn a political scientist and leading international cooperation expert, specializing in governance and policy for sustainable development. He serves as an adjunct professor (Privatdozent) at the Otto Suhr Institute of Political Science (OSI), Freie Universität Berlin, and as a senior consultant to the European Commission, United Nations agencies, German development cooperation, think tanks, consulting firms, and nonprofit organizations. Based in Xiamen, China, Dr. Kuhn is widely recognized in his field and is a frequent speaker at major international conferences and workshops. His highly cited publications address megatrends, sustainable development, climate policy, and civil society, and he has been a primary supervisor for doctoral and numerous Master’s theses in international relations at Freie Universität Berlin, Department of Political and Social Sciences.
Dr. Kuhn co-authored "Global Perspectives on Megatrends" (Ibidem, Columbia University Press, 2022). His extensive academic experience includes professorships at Tsinghua University’s School of Public Policy and Management, and Xiamen University’s School of Public Affairs and School of Public Policy. He has significantly advanced international collaboration and cultivated strategic partnerships between German and Chinese universities, focusing his work on international cooperation, sustainable development, climate policy, sustainable finance, and global megatrends.
An experienced teacher at both Master’s and Bachelor’s levels, Dr. Kuhn is known for his executive training of diplomats, government officials, and project managers in English and German. His award-winning course, "Climate Policies of Global Cities in Comparative Perspective," earned him Freie Universität Berlin's Central Teaching Award in 2019.
With professional and travel experience in over 70 countries—primarily Europe, Asia, and Africa—Dr. Kuhn is fluent in German, English, and French, and proficient in Chinese. He has resided in China
